It Starts With Co for a Reason

We do it every day in some form—two or more people in conversation. That is how people have communicated for as long as they have been speaking in any known language.

It is my opinion that most people do it without really thinking about what they are doing. I know at times I have been guilty of this. Conversations can occur anytime, almost spontaneously, and in social settings, this is very common. The message may easily flow in and out of various topics and can sometimes be hard to keep up with. There are times I have jumped from one topic without my wife's understanding and suddenly something I say seems completely puzzling to her.

It is important to try to maintain a linear flow of conversation and make certain to denote when one idea has concluded before beginning in a new thought direction.

The CO in communication or conversation should be thought of as two or more engaged in a cooperative interaction of words and thoughts. Communication is more than speaking. It involves listening too. People often think because they are present that is sufficient.

Being Present in conversation:

Being present requires focus. That means during the conversation you do not keep looking at your cell phone. If it is an important call you must take, excuse yourself, deal with it…
