I don't think Trump really believes he has the right to subvert. I think he has a fuzzy view of political discourse. I think he believes anything, and I do mean anything is considered fair game to get him over the 270. He has never shown any compulsion for ethics, why would he see this as a problem?

He can rationalize something is unorthodox, hence the irony of doing something ths surprisingly doesn't crash his numbers, . I think the fact that his supporters don't care just gives him more incentive to carry on.

The man is an enigma, among a lot of other less flattering things.
