What now for Netanyahu and Israel Going Forward

The demise of the Israeli War Cabinet took only 7 months. Enough time for some 37,000 plus Palestinians to die from IDF operations in Gaza, said to dismantle Hamas. While I am certain Hamas has taken a blow, it has been at high coast to the civilian population of Gaza and the other casualty is Israel’s image around the globe.

What this foretells for Netanyahu is perhaps a fight for his political life. Certainly, it signals uncertainty. There is a structure going forward that is smaller than the war cabinet but still there is likely going to be a reckoning with respect to the power void as parties juggle to see what they can make of this. Could Netanyahu win parliamentary elections if one occurred? I think the only way forward for the Israeli government continues to be one that is fractured.

The Departure of Benny Gantz over failure of Netanyahu to plan any kind of strategy long term. Gantz is a moderate, and no doubt frustrated with the far-right hardliners. By dissolving the war cabinet, the Prime Minister perhaps avoids a messy fight at the moment with these hard liners, but it remains to be seen as to what can emerge from this.
