Netanyahu Digs A Deeper Hole for Israel
Threats Show a Sense of Desperation

Prime Minister Netanyahu has sounded alarm over the possibility of impending warrants from the ICC. He has called on the U.S. to intervene, and now he is issuing threats. At every turn, it seems that Netanyahu only knows how to make things worse. Israel has been working diplomatic channels to squash the warrants.
Both Israeli and United States officials have indicated if the ICC issues a warrant against Israeli government officials, Israel will retaliate by taking steps against the Palestinian Authority that could lead to its collapse. The comments promising retribution simply reinforce Netanyahu’s intent to punish the people of Gaza.
The court has been investigating war crimes by both Israeli forces and Palestinian militants dating back to the 2014 Israel-Hamas war. Netanyahu’s inference that this is coming from the Palestinian Authority ignores the fact that multiple state actors have pushed for the investigation of Israel’s military actions. United States National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said the U.S. is opposed to an ICC investigation against Israel but stressed it is also opposed to threats and intimidations against the court’s judges.
