Tens of Thousands Israeli Citizens Go to Streets Callinf for New Government

They poured into the streets with a very unified determination. According to Naama Lazimi, a member of the Knesset (MK) for the centre-left Labor party who was at the demonstration, she says said people came out to protest because it seems clear to many this government is failing.

The shake up of the war cabinet losing two centrist members has perhaps intensified the interest in change. Those left with Netanyahu are right wing hawks and most citizens feel the opportunity to gain release of hostages is quickly fading away. They feel they have no voice for the hostages among these men and further, they do not see this leading to peace.

It likely is not helping that the international community has come down hard on Israel. Add that to Netanyahu taking an antagonistic attitude with the United States. Clearly their mind must be on the ICC as well. They are finding. little support for the way the war has been prosecuted by the Prime Minister and his War Cabinet. The loss of civilian lives has been horiffic. The destruction of housing infrastructure has made 1.7 million people refugees with no permanent home. No work, food is not getting through to the to the starving citizens, who risk not only. famine but disease and constant threat of bombardment.

Will these demonstrations continue and ware down the current leaders and demand an election to replace members of the Knesset and Netanyahu and the hard liners as well?

I will be watching how these protesters react in the days ahead, and if we see counter protests to beef up the right wing leaders.
