When You or Your INFP Partner is in The Grip

It would be beneficial to explore the influences of the inferior function in everyday life. These can be thought of as “grip experiences,” which can be characterized by obsessive, compulsive, addictive, and perfectionistic behaviors. All personality types can experience these to some degree. INFPs have a given predisposition to them. in certain circumstances and it is a good idea to recognize the symptoms to try and mitigate the damage as much as possible.
When in a grip experience it can seem as though we are quite focused or engaged. But such a belief may not be where we are at all. In the first instance we can reflect on what we are focused on with an open mind. We have objectivity on our side. But when we go to the other side, or in the “grip” we are locked into negative aspects such as acting obsessively, or compulsively. In the grip we develop tunnel vision, become much more serious, and have trouble meeting or tending to our responsibilities.
When an INFP is in the grip, he or she is likely to do things that are completely out of character. For example, obsessing over their mistakes, questioning their own self-confidence, the uneasiness the INFP feels in the grip is that they have lost control. This will at times lead the INFP, to become obsessed with doing something to remedy the preconceived problem. This urge to fix the problem…
