Wow, I beg to disagree. Yes, she has some repeated themes broadly, but they generally have fresh takes on them.

Chords you say? You can play a gazillion different songs on 4 chords.

Her voice is strong and her ability to keep it churning out song after song nonstop for 2-1/2 to 3 hours is a known fact.

As for rhymes that don't rhyme, - I don't give a shit. I'm a poet myself and free verse is where some of the best poetry comes into being. Besides, look at Emily Dickinson - she used slant rhymes excessively and I haven't seen many people castigate her for it.

I see Midnight Rain as a song about change - Midnight shifts from one segment of time into another. It's a change. Rain is often equated with renewal. In this case, a change, maybe a new relationship, a new adventure, a new point of view.... the hurricane, the thunderstorm, the tidal wave... these are all strong forces of energy. This could be a person plowing ahead and unleashing an intensity to propel the change forward.

Frankly from an artistic standpoint, and from a business standpoint, Taylor Swift is a genius.

Her artistry propels work that is so eclectic. More genres on a single album - mixing up and changing the music mood.
